The Rose Gavel
Pewter Lapel Pin

The Rose Gavel was conceived in conversation while walking with Melissa MacCrae during the inception of "It Takes A Women." We were lamenting the state of affairs in feminism, women's equality, the blocked ERA amendment , unequal pay compensation, glass ceilings and our ineffective female senators Snowe and Collins and comparing them to Margaret Chase Smith. Margaret Chase Smith always wore a rose in her lapel.

The gavel being a symbol of equality and justice seemed to fit with the rose at that moment, and I imagined a two headed rose gavel. In truth this is an effort to add a new symbol to the feminist cause.

The Rose Gavel is about women taking equal legislative control of their lives and all the thorny issues that entails, including gender equality, equal pay for equal work, equal access to safe and legal abortion, effective and safe contraception, unbiased family planning assistance, comprehensive health care and retirement.

The Rose Gavel retails for $12.95 plus 5.0% state of Maine Sales Tax (0.64¢ In-State sales only)
